Cases and Scenarios

What is the difference between cases and scenarios?

  • Cases allow you to save all the settings and results of your application at any point in time. For example, if you run several different scenarios under certain specific constraints, you can save them as a case. You can later retrieve the same set of scenarios by loading that case.
  • Scenarios are optimization runs that have been completed under certain conditions, for example with some constraints relaxed or enforced. Each scenario has several different implications on the rest of the supply chain that has been modeled.

How do I save and load cases and scenarios?

Cases

  • Use the case manager to save cases and load saved cases.

  • To open the case manager, click on the Case manager icon button

on the top right of the screen.

  • To save the current case, click on the + button on the left panel, and give the case a name.

  • To load a saved case, select “load the case as active.” This saves time rather than running all the scenarios all over again.

Scenarios

  • To save the current scenario, click on the Save page action button at the bottom right, and give the scenario a name.

  • To load a saved scenario, use the Select saved scenario drop down.

Hosting a demo

Can a demo published on AIMMS SC navigator be hosted on another server?

No, it must be hosted on the AIMMS server. SC Navigator is hosted by AIMMS on Amazon Web Services. However, you can create as many demos or publish as many apps as you want on a unique cloud environment.

Troubleshooting a Stalled Startup

Why are applications stalled with a “connecting” message while launching the home page?

Sometimes this problem is caused by having too many data sessions at the same time. You can try removing some data sessions.

  1. Log out, change the Environment to ROOT, then log in as admin. If you do not have admin credentials, someone in your organization should be able to do this.

  1. Logged in as admin, go to: Menu > Configuration > Active Data Sessions. Select the data sessions you don't need and then click Terminate. (Make sure you are not terminating data sessions that someone is currently using).

  1. Log out and log in with your normal credentials.

Dataset and Configuration

Can I make changes to an existing Configuration created in Data Navigator, or a Dataset uploaded from Excel?

Yes, you can make changes to an existing Configuration or Dataset, if you save it with a new name. (It is not possible to overwrite the original by saving it with the same name.) You may want to set up a naming convention, for example V1, V2 and so on.

The Dataset cannot be modified via the app once it is uploaded. Some of the datafields (for instance Customer Demand and Resource Fixed Costs) can be modified in the app for the purposes of running scenarios. However, this does not change the underlying Dataset.

To modify the dataset, make changes in the matching Excel template, and upload it to the matching Configuration. You will need to give the Dataset a new name.

To update a Configuration,

  1. Open Data Navigator and select the target app.

  1. Go to: Menu > Load Configuration.

  1. Select and load the configuration you’d like to update.

  1. Then go to: Menu > Configuration Wizard. The configuration wizard will load the settings of your selected configuration.

  1. Make changes and save the updated configuration with a new name.

You can import a Dataset for the original Configuration to this modified Configuration, in most cases.

Do I have to load Configuration and Dataset every time I launch the application?

Yes, in most cases since scenarios are based on a Dataset, and a Dataset belongs to a Configuration, you must specify both each time you launch the application.

However, if you have saved a case with particular settings and scenarios, you can load the saved case. This will automatically load the associated Configuration and Dataset. To do this, click on the Case Manager icon

on the top right of the screen.

On the left panel you will now see all your cases. To load one, click on ”Load as active."
