Some questions about the table widget

Working quite extensively with the table widget at the moment, but running into some things. Not sure if I am just missed anything in the documentation, or whether these would be new features.

I am a big fan of using the keyboard more than the mouse, so always looking for shortcuts.

When I have a cell selected in the table widget, I can use the regular cursor keys to move left-right-up-down. I also found that using the ctrl key in combination with the cursor keys selects the cell in the top/left/bottom/right row/column, which is also useful at times.

However, was wondering if it is also possible to scroll one page at a time up and down using the page-up / page-down keys (those actually don’t work, but are there any other keyboard combinations that will do the same?)

Another question is whether it is possible to programmatically ‘select’ a cell from AIMMS code such that the viewport on the table is modified to have that cell being active? Underlying use case is that I have a table with at the moment somewhere between 300 and 400 lines where I as developer can provide translations for items. This table also contains a bunch of empty rows at the end, allowing me to easily add new entries without having to manually add each new row separately. When I open the page with this table, it opens up on the first row of the table, and I need to scroll down (using the mouse at the moment, not the keyboard). If I could create a button / procedure that selects a certain row (and or row/column combination) that would make adding new entries in such tables a lot easier. Also the page-up and page-down way of scrolling would make things a lot easier already.

Hi @gdiepen,

Good to see you're already using the keyboard navigation in the table. Here's what I can share on both of your questions.

Page Up / Page Down

These two keys aren't supported in the Table widget at the moment. Since you already know the CTRL + arrow combinations, here are a few more shortcuts that may help:

  • CTRL+HOME takes you to the very first cell of the table.
  • CTRL+END takes you to the very last cell.
  • HOME / END take you to the first or last cell of the current row.

For your translation table, CTRL+DOWN or CTRL+END gets you straight to the empty rows at the bottom, which may save you most of the mouse scrolling.

I'm also working on improving keyboard navigation in the WebUI, both across pages and between the widgets on a page. Your use case fits right into that, so I'll keep it in mind.

Selecting a cell from AIMMS code

Yes, you can do this with the table's Store focus option. Normally, Store focus fills element parameters when you click a cell. Since WebUI 24.10.1 it also works the other way around: set those element parameters from your AIMMS code, and the table moves its focus to the matching cell.

Here's how to set it up:

  1. In the table options, configure Store focus for all indices of the table, including the identifier set. In the current Table (V2), you'll find this per index on the Index Settings tab.
  2. Write a procedure that assigns the element parameters to the row (and column) you want to jump to, for example the first empty row in your translation table.
  3. Call that procedure from a button, or from the page's open procedure if the table should always open at that spot.

You'll find more details in the Table Widget documentation, under "Store focus" and "Quick navigation".

Give it a try and let us know how it works for you.

Kind regards,
Madhu Krishnappa
